Wheels spacers that piss me off....

So I put a pair of these wheels spacers on the back of my BR (1.5") and liked them up until yesterday when I had a little incident out on the trail. Seems as though the studs on the spacers (bolts) decided not to stay tight, and lost a wheel off the back of my BR way the heck back in the woods... Managed to get the spacer off and rob enough lug nuts and nylocks to keep the rear wheels on, and got it limped out of the sticks and back to the trailer, but talk about a butt puckering experience to have a rear wheel pop off at 25 mph! Amazingly I didnt wreck anything.

Question being, red lock-tite and external star washers and a butt load of torque on the studs (bolts)??? Think they would hang together enough to go riding again? I am certainly bringing a ratchet and socket along to be able to check them mid ride!

Wow talk about a bad day at least you didn't fall off the machine at a faster speed or anything! I would think red loctite and some elbow grease would be fine

Dont they make locking lugs for motorcycles? If so i would imagine there would be a bike out there with the same size lugs as our machines.... Just thinking out loud LOL

Either way, thats not good at all, i would hate to have that happen to me.... (note to self: Go tighten mine on the double)

Wait a second... Who said I fell off? jk.. I rode it to the ground! It was really weird, because it didnt ever wobble on the back end. The studs backed into the spacers, and I never felt the nuts getting loose on the wheels. The holes arent tore up, or oblonged at all...

If you put on some loc tite and use lock washers/stars you should have no problem at all. However i agree i would have a socket and be checking for awhile till i was comfrotable again with them. That had to be pretty scary surprised there was no warning at all. Most people would have crashed on that one, experience wins again..

Blue loctite, not red. Make sure threads are clean. Let cure overnight. You should be fine.

Now are you saying 1) you originally did use loctite and lock washers and it came loose or 2) This is your proposed solution?

If that doesn't work, I would throw them in the garbage. Something's not up to the strain.

Blue loctite is for non-permanent installs. The studs going into the spacers, I would think red loctite would be fine as you wouldn't be removing them.

Too late they are now red loctited...(want them to be permanant) That is/was my purposed fix... If they come apart again, Just like the Grizz said... They will be garbage bound!

i just put back-up nuts on mine.

Yea each bolt has 2 nuts on it instead of 1 nut.

Gotcha... I have ITP wheels so I have to run a acorn style lug nut... Not much of an option here...

Blue loctite, not red. Make sure threads are clean. Let cure overnight. You should be fine.

Loctite works by compression, no need to cure

Just an added thought here, if you weren't previously, use a torque wrench to ensure you tighten them adequately.
