    My Garage Build Thread

This will probably be a long, slow thread as the new shop pretty much only gets worked on on the weekends, but I thought I'd get it started. Its about 24x34 give or take and will be two stories, a hideout for the trikes downstairs and a hide out for me upstairs.

I'd love a shop like that. I bought a house thinking I could build a garage later. That was ten years ago. My next house thats #1 priority.

    Keep us updated. Looks great.

Made a bit of progress over the last couple weeks. Looks like this weekend willl be spent tacking up the plywood. I was down at the UFC in Vegas last weekend and will be working in the woods next weekend, so nothing is happening too fast.

Are you going to run a Biz out of it? The reason I ask is the awning over the bay door.

That is GOOD quality work right there...I like the footer/monolithic poor not too many guys spend the time forming that, and throw down 12" haydite block, SOLID! 2x6 walls 2x12 joist...you heating the floor to keep the trikes warm in the winter? Really nice work...from one black-n-blue thumb to anouther.

Thanks for the feedback guys. The father-in-law is building it and my dad and I are the swingers. The awning over the garage door is going to be a deck for the upstairs, tied it into the floor joists so it didn't need any additional supports. It doesn't get too cold here in the winter so I'll just be putting in eclectic heating and a woodstove.
We have a pretty small house and are busting at the seams, so I decided to go with a big shop. I’m just trying to get it to lock up right now so I can empty out the downstairs of the house and build a couple bedrooms down there. Not to mention getting the poor trikes and toys out from under tarps.

You know the ladies like a guy who can let his big DECK just hangout. Yeah the Rvalue in the 2x6 vs 2x4 walls is worth the extra front loaded cost in the long run. Cheers to the oldman he gets a six-er after this one, CHOICE.

I'd have the second floor as a cigar bar/ hangout room. Fully stocked fridge of cold ones.

It's looking great! I think your right with the 2x6 for Rvalue. Good call.
