1985 250sx shifts through all of the gears with pull of the shifter.

I just got my 250sx started for the first time. SOmething is going on with the shifter though.

The shifter will move from the bottom position which is neutral extremely high up. It goes through all of the gears on one pull. You can feel it ratchet through the gears as you pull up. Please any help would be great. I was trying to get this riding by the end of the weekend but it doens't look like its gonna happen.

Is there some sort of ratchet bearing or something.

I looked at bike bandit .. looks like there is something called a ratchet pawl. I am guessing I have to split the case for this.

The engine sounds great, no smoke, no noise at all. I have never split a case before so I was worried about runing something. Any help would be great.

Pulled the side cover. I may have it fixed now.

Got it fixed. I have no clue what was wrong with it, but when I took everything apart something wan't right. Followed the manual and put it back to togther and it works perfect.

Just to adjust the clutch, they have the adjustment too tight.
