    Add just a 400ex carb to '86 350x? Should I??

I have read a little about it and supposedly it is a direct bolt up to add a 400ex carb to a 350x. Would this be a good idea to just do that? No other mods, just the carb? Also what year 400ex's should it be from? An what mm is a stock 350x carb? An what would be the mm from a 400ex? I would really appreciate any help with this. Thanks.

The big benefit of the 400EX carb is that it has an accelerator pump, so the throttle response is better. This thread was up a couple weeks ago...

One thing to keep in mind is that for some reason Honda quit putting the adjustable needle in the stock 400ex carbs after 2005; so to get full tunablitiy i recommend getting a jet kit rather than individual jets. The kit will come with an adjustable needle for fine tuning and good instructions that will save you some headaches on jetting. Good luck and let us know how it works out for ya.

You wouldn't have to purchase a new needle if you did....

so from reading the other thread it seems a bit complicated but no definite answers either. can u, or do u, adjust the accelerator pump? do u change the main jet or keep it the stock 400ex jet? do u change the pilot jet to the 350x or do u keep it 400ex? does the air boot fit or do u need to make something or use something else? i understand jetting is very picky and can be totally different on every application but if someone has done this they can say ok, no BS this or that. I DID THIS AND IT WORKED. after many hours this is what i am doing now and its great. i mean thats what these forums r for right? even if the jetting can change, or be slightly different, it would be nice for someone to say i have this jet in the main and this in the pilot. it works for me start there and try it. i adjusted this, i made the air boot fit by doing this. from what i have read its too complicated and i would rather just ride my 350x as is rather then having problems and it running shitty and unpredictable or dying out and spending my riding time trying to tune it

^^^ Well, that being said, I would keep your 350X carb on it.....

Ok, Since i made that post years ago i have done it MANY other times now.

It is a bolt on, It will clear intake tubes and will fit on stock boots, Its just a tight fit but everything will fit. Im not going to give any recommendations on jetting, You need to do that yourself i dont want to be responsible if it runs lean and you roast the cylinder.

The nice thing about the EX carb is its new, not worn out, or broken AF adjustments like almost all the 350x's have, along with adding some performance.
