    ATC 200 Knocking Noise

    Hi,

I have a Honda 200 ATC and was wondering what is wrong with it. It has a a slight knocking noise that is coming from the area, where the sprocket is, near the recoil. The noise starts to to become more frequent, by how fast it knocks, as the speed increases. I have looked on here before, about this problem and many have said it is "timing, valves, or piston slap". But when the transmission is in neutral, I can rev it all day and there is no knocking noise. It starts knocking (slowly), from the minute I start moving in first gear.

If anyone knows what this is, has advice, or knows how to fix this, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    Nate

A knock is usually a rod bearing going bad . You can try some straight 50 weight motor oil on you next oil change and see if that helps .

check the flywheel for wobbling . a semi-sheared woodruff key can also make a similar sound. grab the flywheel -see if it seems loose. just another thing to check on.

Yep, I think you are right about that. Do you know where I could buy new bearings for the bottom end? I would like to rebuild the bottom end and replace most, if not all the bearings.

It might just be a worn wrist pin also so check it out before you spend any $ . Your better off just buying a good used or new old stock crank off ebay . . The price of a new rod and the labor to install/press it you can get a new one . Was doing a search on ebay the other day and their were several new ones their .

Well, the drive sprocket seems to be in good condition, but.................... there seems to be alot of play on it. I can move it about a quarter inch each way on the rod. I tried tightening it up, but it will not tighten anymore.

rear sproket? i dont know whats up with the half inch play. is it a fast, shallow knock, or a deep, kind of unconsistant knock?

No, the front sprocket that comes from the transmission area. The knocking is a consistent one, and deep I believe.

Ok, found out what it is. I think its a bad countershaft( the shaft that connects to the drive sprocket) bearing. But where would I get a new countershaft bearing?
