I was so thrilled to find a cheap muffler on Ebay for my "mostly 1972" ATC90. I'm not sure which parts are original on this thing, which is why I say mostly. Anyway, the seller said this muffler was from a 1972, but it's got a spark arrestor on the end and doesn't fit. They didn't have spark arrestors in '72, did they?
Here's some pics of the two mufflers. I'm open to suggestions.

The point was not to make a mess of the new muffler. I don't have the equipment or skill to cut off and weld on a new tailpipe, and that's sort of against the point of buying a supposed "good" muffler.
What I was looking for was to see if someone might recognize the newer muffler with the spark arrestor and be able to tell me what year(s) that's supposed to fit, and if it might be possible to get it to fit on mine.
A couple of the pics I posted were trying to illustrate that the pipe was hitting the brake lever, but I don't think it shows it very well. I wonder if maybe later years had a different brake lever arrangement???

I can't ID it myself but I did have a shop weld a new tail pipe to the muffler on my '82 Big Red for just $20....and it looks great.
1982 Honda 200 ATC E. Big Red. Finished but still looking for a few bits and pieces.

Well, Des Moines isnt that terribly far from Mlps., and if you were willing to ship it up to a 3ww brother, I may just be willing to make it fit, and ship it back to you.... (wasnt trying to be an ass)

Thanks for the offer, I appreciate it. And don't sweat it, I didn't take offense at your response, I was just flipping you some....
First I'm going to try removing the brake lever and seeing if it will go in that way. Then maybe I can put the brake lever back in.
LeadFoot, if you've got someone up there in Minnesotaland who can do ANY welding for you for $20, keep that guy's number. The only place I have locally (I'm about 40 miles outside Des Moines) is a guy who charges a $45 minimum. He does good work, but that's a lot to spend on little stuff.

i think i had the same problem, just in reverse. ive got that same muffler, and when i went to take it off, i found that i had to remove the brake lever. so it should go on if you take off the brake lever.

You were exactly right. I removed the brake lever and the exhaust went right in! I was using the diameter of the spark arrestor as evidence that it wouldn't fit with the brake lever. That part was true, but when you actually get the exhaust all the way in place, the spark arrestor is *behind* the brake lever, giving the lever room to move. I just couldn't visualize it. I feel stupid...thanks everyone for your help!
