Might be trading my 96 vmax 600 sled for one. Are they good? How much power do they have? Anything to look at if I end up going to look at it?

Might be trading my 96 Yamaha V-Max 600 for one. Anything to look at? Just talked to the guy and he said he has to get a new needle and seat for it because it bogs down in the midrange? He said they are notorious for that? I have a bunch of money in this sled and dont want a piece of junk thats going to need a bunch of parts.

those year CR's are prob some of the best ones. 92-96 everything swaps out and is basicly the same bike. i might ask for cash + trade but im not sure what your sled is worth, im cluess about sleds. a decent running CR250 of that year should be 1000-1500 now days. ive never had a 250 that bogged at mid ranged, nor did any the mag reviews ever state that about these bikes. maybe getting is off or somthing stupid. normaly the rule of thumb has always been CR's were either taken care of or beat on hard. if its clean id trade they were so solid with that last gen steel frame design.
ive heard 93 and 94 are two of thef astest years for the 125 and 250's . i had a 93 cr125 and is screamed , my buddie had a 96 kx250 and i would keep up with him till around 4th gear then the kawi would pull away i loved that bike, pro tapers excell rims fmf pipe boyseen reeds the triple bumps was grinded off for hair scrambles and that bike could turn on a dime even had a clear oversize gas tank man i miss that bike !
The 93 250 had power-valves? How hard are they to clean and adjust?

The 93-4s are very fast and reliable. PV's are very easy to clean, just pull the chamber and hit with a wire hone.
Very good bikes, and very fast.......

The guy said the midrange bogs down. Maybe just needs the power-valve cleaned? How much faster would this bike be compared to my TRI-Z?

All 250cc mx bikes from the mid 80's on up had tremendous power. By this time they were all power valved and liquid cooled. In the later years all of them adapted the small bore long stroke design to smooth the power delivery, and in theory add a bit of reliability. In practice. A well tuned bike from then won't give up much, if anything at all in terms of overall power to a new 250cc bike. Cr's of the early 90's were great too. Full HPP, engines and a proven design that worked very well. Keeping a bike 'in tune" is the #1 thing regardless of year. Comparing the CR to a tri-z is actually unfair in terms of performance potential. The Tri-z will be completely dominated.
Anyone else have any info on these screamers? Thanks everyone.

i owned 1 93 250, 97 125, they are good bikes, well sought after. endless parts out there. they always had a comfortable riding position, power was great. just go ride the bike 1st, let the bike sell its self to you not us. i would never own any other dirtbike but a CR if i wanted a 2 stroke again.
Well I traded my sled for the bike today. Its actually a 1991, not a 93. Overall good shape, freshly rebuilt forks. Man these things are tall and very skinny! Will take a little getting used to. It kind of bogs down just a little until higher RPM, just enough to notice. Cleaned the carb already, Ill mess with the power valves tomorrow.

got pics ??
should be a good bike. I agree the last gen steel frames were the best of the CR's and the CR, in my opinion, were the best 250 2 strokes. the most important thing is mantainance on mxers tho. check the spokes. linkage, pivots, head bearings, and filter. clean and lube it all up! Except the spokes, obviously, tighten them.
