    84 125m slipping out of gear

    Before I get the bad news, keep in mind this is a super mint 1984 atc125m with probably 25 original hours onthe trike. It is literally a time warp! New fluids, and running like a top
    We went for our first long ride (3 hours) and near the end of the ride the trike would slip out of gear and back to neutral. This happened just a few times, but at the end of the ride the transmission was really pissed off and would jump out of gear, not go past 2nd gear, then barely shift at all.
    When the trike is cooled down, it runs like a top.
    I've heard scarey stories about the 125m trans not being up to the task of the power.
    Any ideas? Is this just the way it goes with the 125m?

    sounds like the stopper arm is broke. maybe that is why it is like new. they never fixed it and was tired of riding it that way. if it is the stopper arm then it is an easy fix. i beat the crap out of a 125M for 5 years when i was younger and never had any troubles with it.

    This is the 1st I have heard anybody say the 125 trans wasn't up to the task.

    Way back when my grand parents bought me a brand new '85 TRX125 and I beat on that thing for 8 years and the only thing I destroyed was the countershaft sprocket.

    What is the stopper arm? Is this something I can visually inspect or how do I diagnose if it is damaged?

    it is under the right clutch cover and under the clutch basket. it holds it in gear, the little wheel at the end of the arm will brake off sometimes. it is a less common problem on the 125 than it is on the 70 but it still happens. if it is that low of hours i would not suspect any trouble with the dogs on the gears. when you say "When the trike is cooled down, it runs like a top" do you mean it shifts OK? if so that would be strange.

    it is not bring up the correct screen, just go to the shift drum and click on it. it is number 8 on that screen.

    I'll check it out. Thanks guys.
    And yes, when it is cooled down it shift just fine.
    This only happens when it gets driven for 3+hour ride.
