    ATC185S Oil Leak

So, the other day i got my 185 motor put back in after a top end rebuild, fire her up, runs great, sounds great. But there is oil leaking from the bottom of the CDI cover. i looked at the manual and made sure i had everything together right and i believe i do. so why is oil leaking from there? is oil even supposed to be there? it only leaks a few drops every now and then, id say it makes a 3 inch puddle in 5 minutes. so what could be the problem?

check the o ring that goes around the CDI. I just had the same problem with my 185s. the oil would soak into the CDI and I would lose spark. hope this helps

if you pulled the cdi cover off(inner)without taking the little pin off the cam shaft you may have ruined the seal

i cant fit it in today, but i will look at the seal tomorrow maybe. i did take the pulse base off without taking the dowel pin off the cam...what should i look for that would tell me that the seal is bad? (i didnt look at it too closely during the rebuild)

well that oil seal was the problem. just not how i expected. there was a metal washer of some sort stuck to the back of the seal. my guess is it pushed the seal out and let oil leak through, im just glad it didnt fall into the timing chain/sprocket...
