I've looked at alot of R frames and didn't see any that had this so that's really why i'm asking
pot pics sounds cool

" I actually think it is good that you have clubs where people can go and enjoy riding these things together. It reminds me of how the prisoners on death row have fun waiting for their turn on the electric chair. Fair enough, the trike isn't an electric chair, but it is about as safe and comfortable as one."

maybe its an ultra rare aftermarket frame from the 80s
Somebody has modified that frame. None of the stock R frames ever had a detachable subframe from the factory.

Was it Laeger that sold an atc 500 frame with the flip up subframe so you can kick it rearward?

RIP Trace.. Godspeed.
So here are a few pics i snapped this morning, you can see the hinges at the top of the frame and the posts at the bottom, the guy i bought it from tack welded the posts so it wouldn't slip offand the gas resivour for the shock is also welded to the frame and the subframe so it doesn't pivot at the moment
But with some cleanin up it should go back to the way it was but my only question now is where to relocate the gas resivour and the how to get the air filter to work cause the stock one obviously won't work with a pivoting subframe, it's got a K&N filter so should i just take off the stock airbox and run it without it or just weld the damn thing together and forget about it?? If its a rare thing to have this frame then i would like to keep it since it sounds like it's pretty rare...

I looks to me like the sub frame broke at one time and who ever had it just cobbled it together i would find a frame and go from there

the frames in pretty good condition and there are posts that the subframe slips over so i don't think it was ever broken

I really don't see a practical use for a subframe that pivots forward. And it doesn't look like there was any way to latch the subframe down. It probably bounced alot in rough terrain. If it was on another trike where a rear kicking engine was custom mounted, it may have been a help but I don't see where it would make much of a difference on a relatively stock R. And it doesn't seem to have been very well thought out at all. I would be cool sitting around the campfire to show off the back end of your trike, but that's about it as far as I can tell.

Thats kinda what i was thinkin so i'm probably just gonna weld up the subframe to the posts and leave the hinges on top and get the whole thing powder coated black and go from there...

Just be careful. These honda frames aren't the heaviest duty frames I've ever seen. And since your frame has already been welded on several times, it may have actually weakened your frame. It's your trike and your call, just be aware all those previously welded spots could be possible problem areas. If you do alot of jumping or really hard riding. Make sure to check those spots for cracks. It's better to be safe.
