just got back from glamis and made the trip to pattons wall. let me tell you, it's no fun to stare at a hill cause you dont have enough gas to make it back to camp. i was so close to camp though that I could see my truck, and just stare at it while somebody ran to get my gas can

I never skimp on that aspect....., spent 500 bucks on my rubber...full comp cut rears and triple buffed front.........name one motorsport where tires dont matter
no no no, I am not using those crappy lead weights as tires. Sank SKATE 1's, not crappy sand sharks. Comp cut Sand Tires Unlimited are the lightest tires next to Ultra light skat traks.

We are making the same point besides the whole knobbie debate. My point is that knobbies are better than those cheap heavy paddles. Stock rubber is decently light and have great traction at a low psi in sand.

I wont be comp cutting my sand skate 1's though. Oregon dunes are a lot less forgiving on tires, roots and what not sticking out on the trails. They are still really light though, and bulbous. The soft paddles make for higher top speeds and the bulbous tire has a huge contact area with the sand.

    I'm just flicking , don't mind me.

    To dammit,

I assume you will be bringing video gear, I will have at least one go pro, if not two. I have a 32gig sd card in each...

What I don't have is a lap top and toting my pc down there doesn't sound fun. Are you bringing a lap top to upload video too?

my paddles are under 7 lbs each with rim, but I refrain from telling you the exact weight.... I will tell you that they are STU's dunesliders

Cheng Shin makes the Dune sliders I believe. I haven't tried them. We might have to do a paddle test. From what i have looked up they are within .1 of a lb to the Sand Skate 2's... Not sure about sand skate 1's.

And 7lbs!?!? The stock weight of those tires are said to be 21.5 lbs per tire... I don't know if the paddle tire comparison I am looking at is bs or not. Maybe it's mounted on a lead rim.

yup pattons from glamis, when I ran out of gas on the way back i could see my truck. i wish my truck could have made the trip to pattons valley. i couldnt run the hill cause I was pretty sure I wasnt gonna make it back, and I would have rather been closer to camp when I ran out

so here is pattons valley, the truck is some crazy mofo that was out there thrashing his truck, and then there is my mo-sheen with the blown forks and shock.

not so fun hitting the dunes and having to use your legs as your suspension...let me tell you I am in some pain after 4 or 5 years without a desert trip
