Are 82 Honda 250r trikes desirable at all?

I see that the later ones are the most desirable but what about older ones, the first gen models? They don't seem to be nearly as performance oriented as the later ones.

But are they still desirable and around how much are they worth in average condition (ridden/maybe needs carb rebuild/plastics may not be perfect/etc).

I would say YES, but the trike needs to be in near mint condition to bring $bidders. A quality resto can bring bigger $bidders but you need to do your homework. The Resto would need to have ALL the goodies...extended axle, race pipe(the more rare the better), race plastic(if it was produced) or NOS/repro but new plastic, Flat track versions with BIGBOREs, or the hard to find modded heads, oversize carb, better than stock controls...you hear what I'm saying, a retro racer. Now will you make money...you might? breaking even is possible too...but todays buying power just isn't there. When the Economy does rebound and this continious melt down of scrap srinks every junkyard...the rarity of these machines increases.

Well I'm not looking to make a racer, I'm just looking for a fun riding ATC that has full suspension with more power than say my 200 Big Red. I just don't want to pay too much for them just because of the fact that it is a 250R. So what I'm looking for is a reasonable price range to pay for a stock driver, not a resto trike or hopped up racer. Ballpark figures for a okay used one.

around here they seem to go around 5-700 i wouldnt pay more than that for one, they aren't as desirable but still have great power and are full suspension, just not a lot of travel

You are lucky. Over here in the UK a 250r in average condition fetches over £1000 - I think that's about 1500 dollars at the moment.

Well the seller keeps dropping the price. He emailed me and told me that he would sell the trike for 380. However it does not run. Has good compression, he has a guage and would show me and the carb was rebuilt but it keeps on getting way too much gas. He mentioned that the reeds might be bad or a problem with the float.

The other issue with the trike is that its missing the headlight and missing the rear brake caliper. The headlight I can deal with, the missing caliper is an issue for me though, they don't seem to be common.

Also the plastics are not cracked or broken but are sun faded. Looks pretty complete other than the missing parts I mentioned above.

I like the first gen R's, but i don't think of them as racers. To me they are more of an enduro type atv. By that i mean plenty of low and mid power to keep the tires hooked up. Plus the limited suspension doesn't work well at high speeds anyhow. But for some nice spirited trail riding with the occasional burst of speed running through the gears. They are great. The cylinder design is the limiting factor. And why in large part they were very conservative to begin with. They can be made fast, but in general they are best left close to stock and enjoy them as is. In a good state of tune they can be lots of fun, and reliable too.
