Blaster Questions

I have a 95 RM 125 i'm trying to get rid of for a quad or trike and some guy offered me his Blaster with alot of mods like elka shocks all around piped and jetted extended 6 inches and a 240 big bore kit. My question is how reliable are they and would you guys do the trade. I would have told him no but because it does have alot of mods i am actually considering it. I got the bike because i wanted to try something different but i'm just not that in to dirt bikes. Thanks for any info.

lol i traded an 03 blaster bone stock other then a fresh top end for an 98 rm 125.honestly i wouldnt do it my reason is no matter what it is a blaster.and with all those mods it was probally raced and beat on.could probally sell it for some nice change if ya wanted

The dirtbike has a small hole on the stator cover about the size of a dime from the chain popping and it seems like it's easier to sell a quad up here in Albany than it is a dirt bike. That's another reason i'm thing about trading him, because i'll turn it around and sell it for something like a warrior or bigger quad and maybe and some cash for like a Raptor 660 or something.

deff the same way around here with selling bike vs quads.i would do the trade and sell the turd for a some cash and get a real quad.or a nice trike

No way is that blaster stock. I've seen lots of blasters and not one was liquid cooled.

well I guess no one here knows how to take care of their quads, I built a poretty good modded blaster and it got beat and run hard all the time but taken care of as well... its still running to this day with the same built motor when I first did it so that makes nearly 4 years on a modded machine with no rebuilds. I also know of a 240 blaster that has been beat on longer and is still running strong as well its changed 3 owners hands since I first saw it and I still see it till this day its got even more years on it then mine did. In my op blasters are great quads not only are they cheap they are cheap to modd and cheap to MAINTAIN if you cant do the latter worth a crap then no need in ever owning anything any way becouse everything you will get will just be junk and you will always say so. And correct with many hear the blasters were never liquid coolled, there where liquid cooled heads avail for them that didnt use a pump but very few ever bought them, a YZ250 would nearly bolt in a blaster so its feasable that someone did that and that would be light years faster then any 85 bike.

I got a '94 200cc stock blaster with hole-shot tires in the back, and it's going on 5 years without a rebuild. all I do to it is standard maintenance like changing the oil, blowing out the air-filter,etc... and she runs like a champ, but I only beat her when I FEEL like hot-doggin' it , otherwise I just cruise along, so I guess what I gettin' at is: that with proper care and maintenance you don't have to rebuild the top-end all the time!

You'd love a 660, trust me. The torque these machines have puts a smile on anyone's face. They got a bad rap for being tippy, but in all reality if you know the machine's limits, you're not going to be rolling the thing. Avoid the 01's as they were prone to 2nd gear disappearing. A buddy of mine has a slightly modded 700 (airfilter, rev box, full pipe) and it will pull away from my bone stock 660 pretty bad, but the wider and longer 700 gets a little interesting in really tight trails. The 700's received a longer swingarm coupled with lower center 'o gravity, so they didn't wheelie as easy. Personally I enjoy the more wheelie-prone 660, as it lofts the front end easier over fallen brush and washed-out trail sections. To each their own I guess, the 700 is a superior design, but for the money you could save by getting the 660, you can make it a 700 killing beast, that handles just as well.

The Blaster was beat to death. The only good thing on it was the Elka shocks. I went to test drive it and i had to damn there argue with the guy to test ride it which i thought was strange. I let him rip my bike but he wanted me to take it easy on his. So i take off in 1st and then into 2nd with the quad spitting and sputtering and as soon as i hit 3rd the chain popped and oil that was a milky gray which means water must be in the motor starts leaking out by the gear shifter. So i look and the case has a huge crack were the JB weld was trying to hold the shifter in. So the guy gets pissed off at me and says thats why i told you to take it easy. I look at him and said that's funny because i don't remember you taking it easy on my bike , you banged through all 6 gears. So we did not trade and he actually posted it on craigslist for 1500 and said the quad was in good shape and ran great. The JB weld he had holding the case together was still not done drying when i test drove it. I find it funny how dishonest some people are. I told the guy straight up before we met that my case has a hole in it but the bike runs good. The hole is on the stator side so no leaks or anything.But this guy was trying to give me his junk and lying about everything. I'm just gonna try and sell the bike as is for 800 and if it doesn't sell i'll fix it and try to sell for 1100 for the cost of parts. Or try and trade for and add some cash for Raptor 660. ATC GUY your right i do like the 660 my buddy has one it is easy to wheelie and the tipping doesn't bother me. I know how to through my weight around on quads and trikes. Sorry it took me so long to keep you guys informed, been real busy at work.
