back bearing on sprocket side has play. (1984 200x)

i noticed this putting bearings in yesterday. my sprocket side bearing has play, if i'm "lucky" it will last about 15 hours of running. i know this is not right. will it work if i take a popcan or something and tap it in around the outside of the bearing to take away the play? or will that just make it worse.

It sounds like your carrier is worn from running bad bearings too long......

Yes, you can get some shims, they have "shim kits" from .001-.030 but it has to fit tight; It's gonna constantly be forced upon.

Loctite also sells a product called "cylindrical Loctite", it's not cheap but I've seen it work in industrial applications. It takes up the play between the bearing and the swinger but both must be spotless before you use it.

This probably won't last long and is a quick fix at best. Worse comes to worse, get another swinger and set of bearings. Old machines aren't easy to get tight again..........
