I seen someone's Tri-Z with plates on it for Florida, would anyone know if an 85/86 250R would be registrable in Arizona? I'd rather not call the DMV and have them tell me that 3 wheels are illegal and hang up. If I could get a rebuild title and street plates I would definitely drive to my MMI campus with it. It's dumb question but thanks for the help.

it goes state by state and county by county,also you have to meet DOT requirements.

my worry would be theft.
you would have to have a safe parking place and a key so no one could just run up and take off with it.
if arizona has strict emission laws then it would be a no.
the gas would also be a problem cause you would have to mix it and mixing gas in a tank isnt good for the engine.
its just too risky cause someone could just load it into their truck and take off with it.

yes in texas you can make some weird things street legal but when my aunt lived in Houston ten years ago you have to get annual inspections to make sure your car is safe. We need these in Oregon.

I would keep it in the back of my truck with chains and locks. I always pre-mix gas in a separate container too. I love two strokes too much to just mix by eye.

you could mix at the pump... just add the correct amount of mix for the amount of fuel added.. you could easily calculate this with your cell phone

I have a pic from here I dl a while back that was in dirt wheels and the guy made a xl 650 into a trike. Check dennis kirk they sell europe dot approved atv tires. MV branch said to me that the vehicle would need to be looked at by an engeneer to meet dot specks. Or it could just be bs from MV.

DOT approved tires is NOT mentioned as a requirement. I see utility quads, race quads with knobs on a regular basis on the streets.

What equipment is required to operate my OHV in Arizona? (Some of these equipment requirements are specified in older statutes that are already part of Arizona State Law.)

* For those under 18, a properly fitted and fastened U.S. DOT-approved helmet. (ARS 28-1179B)
* Brakes. (ARS 28-1179A.1)
* Lighted head and taillights if operated between one half-hour after sunset and one half-hour before sunrise. (ARS 28-1179A.2)
* A muffler or noise dissipative device that prevents sound above 96 decibels. (ARS 28-1179A.3)
* A United States Department of Agriculture (USDA)-approved spark arrestor device. (ARS 28-1179A.4)
* Eye Protection for operators of vehicles not equipped with a windshield. (ARS 28-964A)
* License plate securely fastened to the rear of the OHV and clearly visible. (ARS 28-2512D.1&2)
* Rearview mirror. (ARS 28-964B)
* Brake light and at least one red rear reflector (if taillight does not reflect). (ARS 28-927)
* Seat and footrests for the operator and passenger if vehicle is designed to carry a passenger. (ARS 28-964B)
* Sand dunes and certain areas designated by a land managing agency may require a safety flag. The flag shall be at least 6 by 12 inches and attached to the OHV and flying at least 8 feet above the surface of the level ground. (28-1179A.5)

Now to the most important information as it pertains to the OP who asked about ARIZONA:

To street legal your OHV you will also need:

* License plate light. (ARS 28-925C)
* Horn audible from a distance of at least 200 feet. (ARS 28-954A)
* Proper insurance. (ARS 28-4142A)
* Emissions: Certain areas may also require to have your OHV emissions tested. (ARS 49-542C&D)

Emissions on a 2 stroke could be tricky, but I know of blasters that are street legal. It is very little cost to emissions test a "trike" to baseline, and I believe you can go back without paying again to try to pass. It may be better to try a 350x or 250sx, but it could be done. By the way to ride the fire roads or "maintained" roads in AZ you are supposed to be "street legal".

My dads friend, who lives in Bullhead city AZ, said he's seen plenty of quads that are registered for street use out there. I didn't see anyone riding a registered quad around, but my dads friend isn't the kind of guy to spread false info.
