    200x stripped countershaft

My 200x just went down today with a stripped countershaft. this looks like a tedious job and was wondering if it is best to take out the motor to work on it or what the best way to do this is.

The whole motor has to come out, then the top end off and then split the case.

Not an easy job for anyone........

I won't tell you to do it but MANY guys buy a new sprocket and weld it on there in a few spots, then grind it off when it wears out.

If you do this, place a soaking, dripping wet rag behind the sprocket to keep the seal cool. I'd weld a bit, cool it off with a hose, weld some more and so on.

These are all discontinued so thats not an option, need a main shaft? I have 2 NOS 200X shafts....

Unfortunately, it's the countershaft that goes bad.

i have 2 spare motors to pull spare parts from. The easy part is getting it out of that since one motor isnt in the frame. I was thinking about going the welding route, the shaft will still hold the gear good, just the slotted end for the retainer is messed up. I think I may go with welding it for now until I get more of my spare parts stripped down and give it a rebuild. I picked the machine up for $450 w/ 2 spare motors only lower end, spare frame, swing arm, 2 rear axles, front forks, suspension and many other extras
