Should I hone an 85250R stock bore??

I got new rings for my 250R. But I thought I read that in stock form the cylinder is coated and should not be touched until that coating has been bored out. The trike is at stock bore and there is always more wear at the ports and it appears to be coated. Thank you!

honestly i would bore it. i would atleast take it to a cycle shop and hve them measure it to see if it is in spec. just changing the rings is a BAD idea if the condition of the bore is in doubt.

ad far as i know, no 250r bore was ever coated.

I agree totally W/ 200X Basket , always make sure your cylinder is in spec. You know the old saying, It's better to be safe that have a blown motor :shock: I believe the coating Dirtcrasher is refering to was on later model CR250 dirtbikes.

Maybe you misunderstood me - it has a relatively new stock piston in it with no scratches and right in spec along with the cylinder. The clearances are fine - I checked 4 or five spots in the top, middle and bottom of the cylinder with inside teloscopic gauges and a micrometer. But I was told that HONDA coats cylinders and not to hone it, just to put new rings in. Cmon guys you know me better than that!! But of course your help is always welcome and appreciated :-D

Yes, I think it was NIKASIL in my 1994 CR250

Its an iron cylinder, not coated, and should be honed when replacing rings.
