Thankyou!!! I would have never even considered doing that and would have ended up with another destroyed cam.

It may be rare, but this one was forgotten long ago. No one will miss it

I need a wiring diagram for the same 83 klt 250. I have a broken brown wire from the on-off switch on handlebars that comes from the cdi box y/r or r/y wire. Does this brown wire supply the +12 DC volts to the cdi box?

I tried to find you a diagram, but couldn't find anything. You would be better off doing the ignition system swap that I did. The igniter box that comes in the klt250 is garbage.

im betting if you fixed it up and used it as a trike and not a go kart you would have alot of fun. it wont take much riding with it fixed up a bit to fall in love. its sad to see a rare guy get pulled apart. you might be able to get something for it from a member here, parts are hard to find and someone might want them.

I would lose money on it, not worth it. I did get a chance to ride it a few times before I pulled the motor and it tried to kill me twice. I think I am good on the whole 3 wheeler scene. Not knocking them, don't get me wrong. I am just not into it.

If someone on here is actually interested in restoring this thing, I would be more than happy to sell it with all the parts I have right now. This is including all the new parts I bought. Make an offer. I have about 200$ into it.

Personally I'm not crazy about a guy getting on here to document the destruction of such a rare machine, and one that's very savable to boot.

I agree Fabio. This is the type of guy that used to walk into my shop ask for free advice then split when he got what he needed. This is a 3 wheeler club for people to discuss ideas, offer/accept advice, appreciate the machines we love, and keep a dying breed alive. It is BS that you are in here asking for advice on a machine that you are going to chop up. Pay some local shop to diagnose your problems!

I can diagnose my own problems. Really the only reason I joined was because I was proud of myself for getting this hunk of running again and wanted to show off my handy work to people who would appreciate it. Since i made this thread I have helped a couple people install this ignition set up and also diagnose problems with their own trikes. I didn't mean to piss anyone off. Shouldn't have even mentioned I was building a kart out of it.

I understand where your coming from. Its just there seems to be alot more machines to chop up that would be more appropriate. but a deal is a deal so i can understand that. id just rather see a blaster or something very common get chopped up.

Ok, scratch all of that. The 500 cc snowmobile engine sold, and I received the replacement cam and it is the wrong part. Apparently from 83 to 84 there was a big change in cylinder head designs. The bearing on the cam changed from a roller bearing to a friction bearing.. oh well. First 200$ takes it! I can deliver within reason (50 miles or so).
