Gearing for an ATC500 and axle questions

First question is, What is everyone running for gearing with their ATC500?

Second topic is How wide is a stock 85/86 R axle? How much wider do 400EX hubs make this beast? I was thinking of running G force hubs to gain more width. Id like 5-6 inches wider then stock.

400 ex hubs wont fit, only 250R and 350x the 250R has 25 splined axles and everything else is 24 splined

Wow, Thanks. Good to know. I really wish I could run 400 carrier/axle set up. Parts are easier to come buy and endless. Im trying to get a custom swinger made with a 400 rear section.

Syko, what do you run for gearing? You have just about the only 500 thats not run in the dune as a primary. Mine will have a bit more power then most, But it should close gearing wise.

since the 500 has such a high first gear i say you better gear low... i was 13/39 and for tight trails it was too high.. remember the 500 is not a trail bike engine,, also don't be suprised when it will only go 50 mph.. thats the close ratio trans for you.

50 huh, Time to scrap the 500 already. Im thinking Ill have the HP to hit 75. Im just looking for a starting point to get it close. Between the 2 ride there is alot of gearing options.

I always asumed you would have to gear it tall to overcome the loss in tire diameter going from a dirtbike to an ATV.

One would assume so, but most people forget that the dirtbike has a huge rear sprocket to go with that big rear wheel.

Honestly unless your doing very tight harescramble type riding you can run whatever gearing you want. I ran 15/36 on my 500R with 18in tires for a long time. Yes, first gear is tall, but its got the low end grunt to pull it. It'll take some experimenting to find something your comfortable with.

BUT ONE THING TO REMEMBER ,, I HAVE AN hrc WIDE RATIO TRANSMISSION KIT... thats why i can gear low enough to overcome the first gear ,, and still do 70 topped out..

Great, So all the info Im getting is 50MPH and wing it, LOL. I have started buying sprockets, I snagged a new Honda 38T rear for 5 bucks last night. Im goint to run very light sprockets, But his will help me dial in my G spot.

I was thinking there was a closer gearing area that everyone ran. Like on the Zs, Rappys and other machines I have ran. I was also hoping it would go similar to the bike. I honest was thinking of running the rear tires off my XX. I believe they are 22-9-11s. Im figuring that Ill have enough power to push a 22, And the 9 will push easier.

Whats this wide ratio kit Im hearing about? My motor gets sent out next weekend for the BBK and I could have one installed then.

No...TRX transmissions are pretty much completely different. The transmission gears in the TRX motor looks like tinker toys compared to the width and size of the 500 ones lol.

    Edit: Mis-read the post.
