someone please help me idleing problems

i have a 82 atc200 i took apart the carb about 3 times and this time i put it back on the trike and i was trying to idle it. i got it to idle where i need it and than it rev real high..i do not know if it is the floats or is it the float needle can one of yall help me please

Check the routing of your throttle cable... Make sure its correct.

i did and it looks like it is correct.all i did was just change the plug put a new pull rope and clean the carb out and change the oil

yeah..when i turn the idleing screw where i need it and after it sit for about 2 seconds it revs up i do not know what it is off hand my uncle told me it could be the floats or the float needle i douno

Just checking, does it have enough fuel in the tank, when my 350x gets low on fuel it starts to idle real high, other than that maybe an air leak? Like between carb. and intake boot.

Vent on the tank open? sdm111 could be on to something with that vacuum leak idea...

and i had it idleing before it was kind of high and when i idle it a little lower it rev high. i got a half tank of gas there are no air leak..i can try to oil the throttle cable that might do it because when you turn the screw in it moves the cable i think i am not so sure

I was going to ask where all your settings are (needle, air screw, pilot screw). But first I want to ask about the choke, if I don't ride my 185 for a while I forget which way is on and off. I think your carb is similar, did you try changing the choke lever setting? remember there is a 1/2 on setting as well on it as well. Which screw do you move that moves the cable? With the carb apart so many times maybe it's a good idea to print out a picture on the parts breakdown of the carb (from any online parts dealer) and use it to compare what you have, it's easy to put them together without some of those little o rings and spacers in the right spot.

i think so..i might have put the floats upside down in the carb so that could be a problem because in the 3d picture of the carb the big part of the floats are up and the flat part of them are facing the bottom of the carb so i will look at that tomorrow or Wednesday..might not be til next week because i am going to the farm and ride my 83 200x i guess i will let yall know..how can you check for a air leak?

fellas in the shop spray carb cleaner over the suspect area's while watching and listening for the engine rpm's to increase, it crude but works, -just don't do it on a hot engine - you don't want a fire now-

I've had 2 of the 'w' clips that hold the main needle down in the piston flip sideways lately and the main needle can go up and down whenever it wants .

drove me nuts after going BACK thru the carbs thinking i missed something complicated.

The main throttle return spring holds them down IF they're in there correcctly.

well i called the honda people one said that the slide might not be in correct and i called back and i got the service person and he said it might be a air leak or it might be out of timing..note we neva neva played with the timing. so sometime this week i am going to pick up a rebuilt kit with all the 0-rings from the carb to the block and than see what it will do from there and if it does the same thing i might just take it over to the honda so they could look at it for 75.00..before i take it to them i am going to look at the carb again
