if they do find out do it DEA style find out what year it was stolen then ask the seller who he bought it from go to them and ask them when they got it then who they bought it from and then you could catch a theif years in the making!
it most likely would not work.

from now on when i get more toys im going to run the vin before i buy, if they say no then im still going to run it then get them busted!

    This is my trike.
There are many like it, but this one is mine.
My trike is my best friend.
It is my life. I must master it, as I must master my life.
Without me my trike is useless.
Without my trike, I am useless.
I must roost faster than my enemy who is trying to beat me to the finish.
I must beat him before he beats me.
Before God I swear this creed.
My trike and myself are defenders of track.
We are the masters of keeping quads the losers.
So be it ... until there is no quad left.

Am I the only one here who is going to give the honest advice? Do the right thing man. Take it to the police dept. and let them run it. If it's stolen it can go back to it's rightful owner then you can go after the person who sold it to you for your money back. Yeah, it may not be easy but it's the right thing to do. I would hope someone would do that for me if my trike was stolen. I'm sure everyone else would too.

just got off the phone with my cuz an Iowa State Trooper out of Ft Dodge (I'm an Iowa boy myself) and he said just go to your local PD with the vin#. If it comes up hot then it's up to you to do the right thing before the wrong thing chatches up with you. If you trust the person who sold it to you then whats the worry?

Glad your in the clear man.
The whole situation is a catch 22, If I buy a trike with just a bill of sale (or nothing at all) and I spend my hard earned money, am I just supposed to walk away from that if it turns out it's stolen? I would propose a deal of some sort with the previous owner (that it was stolen from) especially if it was years and years ago. Maybe throw him a couple hundred bux or something and maybe everyone is happy. Who knows. It truely is a double edged sword.
