    85 Honda 250sx no 3rd gear

    I took a 85 250sx in trade and it has no third gear.Every other gear is fine though.

    Christ, just yesterday we had "no 4th gear"

    All you can do is hope and pray you have a broken part under the left cover; download a manual.

    OR, someone recently removed the output shaft with the 3 allen bolts and something wasn't reinstalled correctly.

    It will sometimes go into third when down shifting.Will not stay in gear though.Plus it seems to shift a little hard into 2nd gear.

    I've got the same prob w/ mine. I had it "fixed" a couple years ago at a local shop. The guy replaced 2 shift forks, nothing else. It ran great for 50-80 hrs & then started missing & skipping 3rd gear until it lost it for good. I got a 250ES trans I'm gonna try in it next, if I ever find the time.
