    Question a project using a 250sx frame

I have messed with three wheelers for a while through the years. I have several on hand. But everything i have ever had has been ridged frame and ridged forks. I have been wanting to put together a more racing style trike. In the last of the parts i got home out of a junk yard was a good bare 250sx frame. I know the 250sx was a shaft drive, but i would like to drop in a 200x or 250r swing arm and rear end assy. Do any of you know if the 200x or 250r swing arm will bolt in or will i just be better off making my own(or getting a shop to make one). I think the FT forks on the 200x and the 250r will swap with the 250sx frame? No ideas on engines yet. Just working out the chassis in my head for now, then it will be time to ebay later on.

The 250SX swinger is radically different than either the 250R or 200X swinger and you'd have a heck of a lot of work to do to make either fit on a 250SX frame. Don't know about the forks, though I'm sure it would be a much easier swap than the swinger. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than I will chime in here soon.

I hate to be negative, and I guess anything's possible with enough imagination and fabrication, but from what I know the 250SX wasn't designed to be much of a racer and I'm not sure if it would make a good basis for one.

Still, I wish you luck with your project and think it would be interesting to see what performance mods can be made to a 250SX.

I am not really looking into making it into a full racer but do want the full suspension and racy look. Most of stuff has been ridged so i want to try out some full suspension stuff. Have a few more three wheelers i have on my one day list 250sx, 200x and 250r plus a couple of others. This is more of a junkyard build. I have a ton of parts lying around. The reason i wanted to use the 200x or 250r stuff was because of the disk brakes and using there swing arm would eliminate the shaft drive swing arm. I would be using 185 or 200 engine in the frame. Can anyone give me a measurement on there swing arm on how wide it is on where it pin in on the rear. If that will fit i will have to go into shock length and angle.

IMO you'd be much better off getting a machine that already has full suspension.

I plan to buy a complete 200x, 250sx and 250r some time in the future. But i have looked for fully suspended frame with the suspension still on them. They are either "not for sale" or i could buy a running one for the price they want. This is more of a spare part put together. I just don't have any of the 200x or 250r parts to play with before i started. My dad when i was coming up was a 4 stroke man and didn't like the clutch, lol. So we never had any else.

None of the parts you have discussed will fit a 250sx. Not the swingarm, front end or 185 engine. It sound like you are wanting to build a suspended 185, therefor it would be much easier to start with a 185 frame, unless you are just wanting to use the SX tank and plastics. If you are buying a 200x for the suspension, then just bolt the 185 engine in and ride. Not sure of your angle on this one.

I have always wanted a suspended 185(got lots of 3wheeling magazines bookmarked), and when i was growing up (33 now) i wanted a full suspension three wheeler. I plan on buying completed bike later on. Right now letting my money build back up from buying a tiger. But this was just going to be a excerise to see what i could do with the sx frame. I an the type that just likes to work an build on stuff and i like ODD projects. If any of you have ever played the HALO video game this is another non-trike project of mine. The swinger pivot is probably 6"s wider than a 200X swinger. Plenty of engine room but all mounts would have to be made.

It's possible and if allot of thought went into it, it could be nice; Or it could be a junkyard piece of crap.

Get the right frame, plenty of members have them; Yeah, shipping will eat up 50-100$ but whats your time worth??

To me, every hour I'm working I had better make 20-30$ an hour.

Think about how long something matching unintended products would take and how it would handle.

In the end, it's a waste of time.................

Uncovering and looking at the frame today i seen it isn't going to work unless i build a custom swing arm. The 250sx swing arm bolts to the outside, not the inside. I work offshore and when i am home i have plenty of free time. I do most of my projects with my kids so i see it as time and money well spent, but i know what you are getting at. Guess i am just going to shelf this frame again for now and just go back to some of my other projects. Thank you all for your help. I will just have to keep a eye out for a 200x or 250r rolling chassis later down the road.

Maybe you should have just looked at it in the first place. You doubted us all until you saw it for yourself.

When did i doubted you all? I had a old swing arm off a Honda 4 wheeler that i knew was wider. So i dug it out to get measurements. It was about 10 inches wide. Though it might would work, then when i dug the frame out, bam. No way it could of work. I just came back and confirmed it. It was kind of hard to get a idea on the width of the 200x and 250r swing arm since i don't have one. I haven't messed with the shaft drive bikes a lot, it threw me a curve.
