Hi, and here she is. 83 200E

Hi all, new to the forum and quite fresh to ATV's. We bought my son a Chinese knock-off 4 wheeler about 3 years ago. Haven't done anything to it except gas and change the oil. He doesn't ride it much as he doesn't want to ride alone. So I have been looking for a CHEAP atv for myself. I'm a stay at home dad, so funds are LOW. I came across an 83 Honda 200e last week. It was a cold, rainy, windy day so I didn't spend much time looking it over. I was told it smoked bad and needed brake cables. And the recoil was off it. No biggie, I can do the upper end and get brake cables. Great winter project. Bad move. It needs a front axle and hub assembly, rear axle assembly. Recoil is in peices and missing parts, needs ALL brake componants. I mean everything. No levers, foot brake, pads, nadda. With the price of ATV's in this area, I still don't think I did too bad, just a bit dissapointed. Anyway, I decided to take it out around the woods behind the house so my son would ride his ATV. I got about 15 minutes in and it started sounding and feeling a bit odd. I cracked the left side outer engine case. Engine ran just about out of oil, about 1/2 qt in it. As I get to looking around, some of the bolts that hold the hi/low set-up were missing bolts. I think it tweaked the side of the case and cracked it. And of coarse I can't find a left side outer case for a 200e. I am glad the rear tires are just about new, that pretty much covers what I paid for it..... Here are a few pics, what do you think???

I just bought one of these about 2 weeks ago...Mine's in very good shape but does smoke a little...I gave $275 for it...I would think if you watch ebay you will find the parts you need...even your engine part that's missing...There's always somebody parting 3 wheelers out on there...Don't think you said what you actually paid for the thing but if you wanted something to tinker with and have fun on, looks like you found it...

Thanks guys. He was asking $200. I didn't do too bad.

My wifes 50 Chevy in the back. Another project that we picked up years ago with plans to drop a late model FI V-8 automatic in, restore to original outside and interior. Lack of $$ has put that on hold, it still runs and drives so I take it out once in a while. It's a three on the tree, she's not a fan of standards, than being on the column freaks her out. lol

I like. It has potential to me! Looks reasonably complete and nice maybe with a new fender. I would fix it up and get it going again for sure.

The trike definitely has potential. Sounds like you have some fixin skills, that's good;-) A word of advice though, get a manual before you start asking any questions on how to fix this or that. As for the items you need, give the folks on this site a chance to come up with parts for you before you go to feebay. It may be worth your while. Post a wanted ad in the classifieds. Good luck!

Be careful, that's not a 200E front end you have on there, looks more like a 200S front end.

Wow, these things are addicting. I drove a total of 6 hours yesterday to pick up two parts bikes so I could complete my 83 200e. Seller told me they were both an 83 and 84 200 e's. I get there, and they are not.... Turns out they are both 84 200es'..... So, what do I do. One of them is complete and was told it ran well until parked... thought maybe a stuck valve. So, I agreed and loaded the complete one and the parts wheeler on my trailer. The parts wheeler has a Cobra exhaust on it. I got messing with the complete one today, sure enough, a stuck valve, exhaust. So I pop the cover and give it a few taps to see if I could free it up. I ended up knocking the valve spring locks off. Oops. I thought I would have to pull the engine to pull the head, sure enough. That will be another days project. She was getting spark. So, now I have 2.5 ATC's....
