Drag racing 84' Tecate..

Im going to be drag racing my 1984 Tecate for money against several quad guys when I get it fixed up and running better. I havent really done much racing yet, I raced one guy on a 400EX and he beat me by a few lengths (only because my clutch dosent even work, and you cant shift properly) So im going to ask you guys who you think would win (assuming we are both equal riders). After I race (which will be in a few weeks at the least) I'll tell you all the outcome, and we'll see if you were right. Anyways, here are the rides I will be racing. It will be around a 1/8 mile drag, possibly a little longer, hopefully on grass/dirt, for traction.

1) 1998 Polaris Sport 400 (bored .40 over, piped, clutched)

2) Warrior, modded so much its not funny. Not bored though.

3) 1997 Polaris Scrambler 400 4x4 (bored .30 over, piped)

4) 1987 Kawasaki Mojave 250 (piped)

5) 2002 Polaris Scrambler 400 4x2 (piped)

6) 2002 Honda 400EX (completly stock)

What do you guys think? The first race will probly be against the polaris sport 400. I know nothing about these, besides they are auto. Are they fast on a drag strip? I almost know for a fact that #2 will kill me. That thing is super fast. The guy is a racer.

Also, I dont have a silencer on my Tecate's fatty pipe. If I got one, would it have more power, and go faster, or just make it quiet? What exactly do they improve? Thanx for all your input.

dude my 1982 250r smokes my 2003 400ex you should easily be able to eat the 2002 400ex alive.

Get that baby in good running condition and you will be surprized, you might try to find a extended swinger for the rear end and find you a DG exhaust and that Tecate will fly, I guarantee you'll smoke that warrior. and if your a good rider a couple liquid 250r's.

If you can get your Tecate running properly, you shouldn't have a problem beating any of them. In fact, anyone on your tecate would be able to beat all of them. Get a carb rebuild kit after you fix the clutch.

I would guess the 400 will be the closest followed by the warrior.

I cant wait to see the look on these quad guy's faces when they loose to a 20 year old machine. lol That guy on the 400ex was talking a lot of smack when he beat me, but when the tecate is fixed, you can bet your @$$ I'll be back for more. twisted

High, I bet you bikes that mine would smoke a R. My buddy went to alky because of that red tecate. Now he's faster but the alky is chewing up his powdercoating.

No its fairly stock, Your R is a way better trike, But in a straight line the ole Tecate is fast, I love running the gears on that old bike. I have'nt rode a bunch of bikes but its the fasted, squielyest bike I have ridden. Its headed down the road here pretty soon, I never ride it much anymore, I always take the 350x out. Have a good one, were headed to the coast for some much needed R&R.

Stock for Stock, Your R feels faster because it has more low-end. It also has a higher top speed. KXTs are harder trikes to ride fast. I would not call them "R killers", but you can sure give R riders fits with a Tecate. Those early 80s, non-powervalved KX motors were infamous for the "light-switch" power-band. Not much off the bottom, but once they climb up on the pipe, better hang on. I remember the days when the hit from my 84 KXT gave me a sick feeling in my stomach. :shock:

Randy, a healthy 84/85 KXT with a half-@$$ed rider will eat those play quads for lunch in a drag race. A good start is very important when racing quads. Get your tranny in good working order and get out in an open field and practice starting. Use second gear and good clutch control to keep the front end low off the line. Wheelies look cool off the line but can spell disaster if the power "ignites" at the wrong time!
