1986 200s Electrical question

The 1986 200s uses a different cdi box and are expensive and hard to find. The only difference between a 85 and a 86 is the 86 uses a pulse generator instead oif a pick up coil, everything else is the same. My question is can I use a 85 cdi(which is a whole lot cheaper) and just rewire. Is a pickup coil the same as a pulse generator? Thanks
