    XR swap

My younger brother (tdup) just built an xr200x motor. He used the center cases/6 speed tranny from the XR, and the rest was 200x. Unless you have a massively extended swing arm and trimmed rear fenders, you'll have to split the cases and swap out the XR kick start parts with 200x parts to have the forward kick starter. I think there might have been an issue with the shifter fork as well, but you might want to ask my bro. about that. You can contact him at travisdup@alltel.net

    xr200 conversion

There are advantages to starting with the xr motor. Higher compression, 6 speeds, 26mm carb intake and 26 mm carb. I decided to use the 200x cam in my conversion. To do the conversion you will need a complete right side cover and kick start assembly for the 200x.

To install the kickstarter assembly from the 200x you have to split your center cases. You need to replace the kickstarter shaft from the xr200 with the 200x main shaft. The 200x main shaft has one of the reversing gears on it and does not extend past the cases like the xr200 shaft. Before installing the 200x shaft into your transmisson you need to remove the large kickstart ratchet gear and put the xr200 kickstart gear on the 200x shaft. Then just follow your 200x manual for the rest of the assembley. All of the alignment dots are in the correct position even with using the xr200 kickstart gear on the 200x shaft. It is actually a very easy and straight forward conversion. It can easily be done in a day if the motor is on the bench already. You should find no suprises.

If you install the xr200 gear set into 200x cases they fit perfectly. But you must use all of the shifter components from an xr200 for the conversion to work including the shifter shaft that the shift pedal attaches to. I am very pleased with the 6 speed transmission and my complete conversion. The closer gear ratios allow me to shift less when I an just riding around. While letting me keep my motor right in the sweet spot if I want to run it hard. I am running the 26mm carb off of an xr200 also. I have one that I can sell if you need one.

I strongly recommend this conversion and have no regrets.

    I hope this helps.
