    85 250sx advice/help

Hey guys I've got an 85 250sx and it quit on me last year so I finally decided to check it out and the CDI box is bad. I know because I put it on my buddy's and his wouldn't run and I put his on mine and after 3 kicks fired right up. Nothin runs like a honda. Anyways does anybody know where I can buy a new one(CDI) for it or will I have to find a used one?

Another thing the front suspension is worn right out and I was thinking of getting one of a 200x, 250r, or 350x. I found the whole front end of a 350x minus the headlight for $240, is it worth it? I also found one off an 84 250r the guy said to make an offer, what is a reasonable offer and is it worth the effort? Is there anything I can do for the rear suspension it has a newer shock but is there anyway I can get more travel?

One more time. What all has to be done to put a trx300 motor in it? carb, ignition, exhaust, etc? I heard you have to change the output shaft but anything else? can I run the 250 wiring with the 300. Last time I was at cycle salvage there was a 250 and a 300 motor sitting buy each other and they looked really similar. and is it even worth it or should I just do up the stock motor? its getting a little tired.

    Thanks in advance.

Ebay has cdi boxes or you can go right to RM stator in Quebec has aftermarket ones, or someone here on the boards probbaly has one, post a thread in the classified section.

For the suspension you can bolt on a 200x front end with a couple mods just do a search of the boards. don't know about rear suspension.

To change the output shaft for the trx 300 swap. requires disassembling the entire motor. pretty sure you need the trx 300 wiring harness.

The CDI usually breaks the wires at the battery box. Used ones are everywhere, check Classifieds.....

The 200X or a bit stronger, the 350X front end are a great improvement. 240$ sounds expensive but it depends on the condition it's in.

    You need:

2 forks with good seals and fork boots.
    Triple trees.
A new All Balls kit is nice.
Good front rim and tire with disc and proper spacers.
    Front axle.
    Complete working brake system.
And new steering stops welded on and the old ones cut off your SX.

240$ better be some very good parts, otherwise you can find parts here or elsewhere.

For the CDI I ended up getting one off ebay from RM stator cause they didn't have any listed on there site. it was 60 bucks and I ended up getting it a day and a half after I ordered it.

I really need a new front-end now, knew I shouldn't of took it for a ride. I knew that the front axle was bad and then it ended up snapping off in the fork on me(good thing I was only in second gear lol). The reason I want to switch the front end was because I needed a new tire, brakes shoes, wheel bearings, and the shocks needed rebiult and now the end of the axle is stuck in the fork. tried to get it out with no luck. so I figured if I'm doing all that work it'd be simpler just to change the whole thing.

He says the front end is bolt on other than the headight is missing and the front tire is a bit cracked. $240 seemed expensive to me but I got him down to $150 now. Should I go for it? It's the only one I can find around here.

As for the motor thing I think I'll leave it the way it is for a while just have to adjust the valves. just about every 250 I see has that rattly valve train. Is that all it is is valve adjustment? it has a newer timming chain.
