    Reed spacers?

How do you guys feel about reed spacers for the 250r? Do they work?

Reed spacers mess with your crank compression ratio, BUT, on some engines a spacer will "unclog" the rear boost port. In other words, some reed stoppers protrude quite far into the reed block cavity on some cylinders, effectively restricting boost port flow. Some people grind the stopper to retain CCR, others back the reed block out with a spacer.

If an airbox is still being used, will it shove the carb to far back and effect the connection & cause a possible air leak? I'm sorta curious too, lots of spacers for old throttle body p.u.'s and hot rods, same concept, helps the velocity & fuel mileage.

There is probably not many guys on the planet that understand 2 stroke tech like Ronnie did.

It's not so much the added charging effect as it is the unclogging of the boost port as the charging is somewhat lost on the added crank case volume and pumping loss. IMO, a 3rd gen 250R could benefit from a 1/4" spacer, but a dyno might be the only one to notice a difference... If you want just grind a dime sized half moon in the middle upper reed stopper and see how clean it pulls. Of course that's if the stoppers are still on... If their off, forget the spacer.

Ok, I was typing while mosh posted. I agree with that quote. Also, notice the "i like my top power" comment and what I said about pumping losses with the added volume...

Perfect Mosh. Based on that I will not be using a spacer. That's all I needed to hear.
