    Newbiee Question

    Hi All,

New guy here. Just picked up a 83 Honda 185s. I am wondering how the reserve tank fills. Does it just fill when I fill the tank or do I need to switch to the reserve and then fill it. I did pick up the shop manual on ebay but I didn't see anything on the reserve tank. Thanks guys.

The reserve line is Just a hole at the Very bottom of the tank...with no filter if i remember right, opposed to the regular "ON" witch has a filter and sits a little higher.

The tank is all one container. The reserve is usually the very last 1-2" inside the tank, which basically lets you know you're running low on gas, and lets you get back.

the reserve fills when you fill your tank. not 100% sure on this, but on most fuel pet cocks i have seen, there is two tubes that are up in the tank, which the gas flows thru into the gasline. one is taller then the other, the taller being normal "on" position, the other being a shorter "reserve" position. when the gas is low in the tank and goes beneath the normal higher tube "on" postion pick up tube, you switch to "reserve" and gas flows in to the line thru the lower "reserve" pick up tube. kinda a way for you to know your low on gas.

This photo should help to explain it:

The shorter tube is for the reserve.
