Hey guys...I'm new to the site...but not 3 wheelers...been around them all my life....I had sold off what I had when I was a younger man (I had a 350X man was I a fool....lol)....but I had other resposibilities at the time....I just got an 85 250SX....in rough shape...I rebuilt the rear end (has a 250es Big Red rear in it now), rebuilt the carb and now I'm hunting down all the missing pieces (the airbox to chassis tube and clamps are the last of the "missing" parts I need to find)...I does need new rear fenders....not worried about them being OEM...it's going to be a rider...any of you guys ever buy aftermarket plastic and how did you like it? I'm looking for opinions on fit and finish and all that good stuff...

1985 250sx. The second picture is when I bought it for $150. Had been parked in a barn for 3 years and didn't run. The first picture is $48 later and running like a champ!

    Arizona 1986 250SX

    Hi Guys,
Just found this post. Better late than never. Here are a couple pics of my 1986 250SX. I got it about a year ago in Payson Arizona from the second owner. It was pretty much original when I got it but I had to replace a few things. New handle bars and grips (old bars were bent), headlight guard, new tires, six pac rack, gun rack, hitch and air filter. I went all through and tuned everything. It runs really nice and does not smoke a bit. Don't get a chance to ride it much but I sure do like having it around.

Nice score there Thorpe. Looks like you got a bit of project there, but awesome deal for the price. Some funky looking rear tires, and that right rear rim looks pretty mangled too (makes me wonder how the hell that happened) .

I miss my '86 SX, sold it a few months ago because I thought I needed the money, guy got a super deal for only $425.

I bought it as a non-runner for $200, rebuilt the carb, bought an airbox, air filter, new fuel petcock, battery, replaced the front tire, cleaned the fuel tank, adjusted valves, changed the fluids, and had a great running and riding trike (still needed plastics though). The motor was tight, didn't leak or burn a drop of oil, and ran great.

I have a 200X now, and I dig the lighter weight and better suspension, but think the 250SX had more power (although I'm sure the 200X suffers a bit of compression loss from a leaky head gasket even if it does otherwise seem to run pretty well).

I do miss the electric start, keyed ignition, steering lock, low maint. waterproof shaft drive, and it's best feature of all-reverse. Great all-purpose trike, still kicking myself for selling it.

My BR was as ugly as this SX is when I started on it... I will post up some new pics in a few weeks, as it progresses... I gotta get one of those white headlights for my SX though! I was wondering if someone set a heavy trailer tounge on the wheel or something (wheels were off when I picked it up) Rear axle doesnt seem to have any runout... The Dick Cepek rear tires stand a good chance of never making it back onto this one...
