250SX owners plz look at your trike for me!!

I got a used carb for 30$ supposed to be an 85 or 86 250sx it looks identical except that the fuel bowl drain (that your black hose attaches to)goes out horizotally rather than my 85 which goes straight down  I looked at Parts Fish and Bike Bandit at all years and did not see any that drained towards the back horizontally :?: All the 85,86, and 87 went straight down :?: Do I have an 250ES carb or just an updated one based on the serial number. Plz take a look and let me know if you have the horizontal drain and what year you have :!: Appreciate any help :-D

as i can see in service manual, the 85 carb overflows are going straight down and on the 86 carb the 2 overflow tubes link together and are going horizontally toward back so id its a 86 or 87 250sx carb
by the way 250es carbs are the same

Yes, it's long since been fixed with a 350X carb which also resolved the "cold start issue".

The larger carb worked better with the built motor, Cobra exhaust (which I want to throw away and get a Super Trapp......) and an open air box lid........

Of course, you need to use the 250SX jets (they all fit) and may have to tinker a bit to get it jetted close or spot-on.

The other thing is the 350X choke is on the carb and has to ground to clear the intake boot for fresh air from the frame vents and into the airbox. With no A/B lid, there is plenty of air without that rubber connection and removing allows you to grind even less. Then you need to cap or seal that A/B boot inlet or water asnd mud fly right in there.

You may find a plunger from the Keihin 02 model carb that may fit into the 85 350X carb (might be an 03 or 05, I forget) The 86/87 Keihin 08 model carb plunger is definitely too small to fit the 350X choke plunger opening.

I never expiremented with it any further. It runs great but I rarely use it. When I do use it, I end up bending every component in the swingarm/axle tubes no matter how easy I am on it. But between the weight of the trike and my fat arse (at 210lb - 5'10"s), I guess I should expect it............

So, I keep it around for when my friends bring girls over. The SX is a great machine to learn on, rather than putting a LC 250R under there dumper
