got an issue with my sled

my sled was working great just yesterday. i rode it all day off and on. and today it started acting funny. the normal idle is at 3000 when its warmed up well now when i slow down it starts to jerk and the rpms drop down to below 2000 and just an hour ago it was jerking and it stopped and shut off. i thought it was the belt but the belt looks fine. any idea what it could be?

Sounds like your belt needs to be adjusted on your secondary clutch. If its making the sled stall, I think you would want to raise where the belt sits in the secondary at idle. Also your idle is really high. My old 96 V-MAX 600 sled idled at 1500. What kind of sled?

3000 is to high for idle. My sleds idle somewhere in the ballpark of 1500-1800 depending on the outside temp.

Is the belt squealing when idling? If so, then yes, you need to adjust the belt deflection as Puggerton said, but the opposite direction. If the belt deflection is too tight, then you need to adjust so the belt is a little deeper in the secondary. IF your secondary is adjustable like my newer Doos. I think most older clutches had shims you had to put in or take out to adjust belt deflection.

Does the sled run if you raise the rear end off the ground? Have you dissasembled and cleaned the carbs? There are alot of problems that could fit the symptoms you are describing. We need a little more specific info. What have you checked? What the color of the plugs? How is the compression? Jerking to a stop and stalling out could be alot of different things...

sounds like the idle is too high and when you let off it still has the clutches engaged. Like posted above the idle should be in the 1500-1800 rpm range. Start my adjusting the idle, then if that doesn't help, clean and adjust clutches and maybe clean carb if its idling funny.
