Sub Transmission Question
O.k I have a question that is worrying me I am guessing will be easy for someone to answer.
I finished putting the sub trans back together, the engine is off the trike on the bench. The red lever is firmly to the left and not budging, the small main drive gear behind the sub trans won't move by hand. Is this correct? Does the engine have to be back on the bike and roll it back and forward to test the sub trans gear movement or have I messed up?

year/make/ model would help

Honda 1984 ATC 125m.
Sorry for not including the model, I was still trying to read the manual when asking the question, manual gave me no joy, it says to slide lever back and forth to check alignment but it's referring to an engine still on the body.

Holster, could be something is jammed up, you may want to take the cover back off, (only 4 bolts) and see whats going on. They are sometimes a little hard to engage and Honda does advise you rock the bike back and forward to facilitate engagement but I'm not sure where your problem is. If it works freely with the cover off then you know something is binding up when you bolt the cover back on.
Hope that all made sense

Hi,
I did take it back apart and found the problem quickly, the spring and ball in the fork was jammed, it would not move. It took me 5 mins to free it up, then as soon as it moved the once it moved easily back and forward. Once it was all back together the lever moved effortlessly.
Thanks!
