honda 185s wont go into neutral while engine is running

hi guys first post here, I just got an old honda 185s with the auto tranny. and i noticed it wont go into neutral when the engine is running no matter how much i rock the thing back and forth. It goes in neutral just fine as soon as you kill the engine. Other than that it shifts fine all 5 gears, doesnt pop out of gear nothing weird.
and yes i know neutral is all the way up.
any idea? thanks guys

if the clutch is dragging a little it might make it hard to go into neutral, the clutch adjustment is next to the dipstick. also, you idle could be set too high and the centrifugal clutch could be dragging a little.
