Dura Blue 84-85 Tecate 4/110 hub Group buy

Posting this for some more visibility here as well.

Mudbogger and I are going in on 50 sets of 4/110 Dura Blue hubs for the 84-85 Tecate. We will sell them to members for $100 shipped to you

This will allow you to use 4/110 Honda or late model Suzuki wheels on your 84-85 Tecate. The wheels are much easier to find and cheaper to buy. Most of us have sets of 4/110 wheels and tires around anyways.

Here is a picture of what they will look like.

If you want a set, let us know.

    Thanks for your time..

Bad news on this guys.. Just got a random e-mail from Dura Blue. Looks like a no go (unless we can find someone to cut the splines for the hubs. Why do large companies like this lose things all the time? Bummed to say the least..

    "Hi Doug,

I have not been able to locate our 13 spline broach (used to cut the spline inside the hub). We last used it over 7 years ago and it seems to have disappeared.

I will not be able to make your hubs as I cannot make a new broach for such a limited number of parts.

Here is a suggestion: if you can find a machine shop that can cut the internal spline, I can make the hubs (less the spline). There is a term for "single cutting the spline" but I don't recall what it is.

I have not been able to find a source around here.

At this point, I cannot help you.

    Gary"

Speaking as a machinist. When it comes to cutting these splines in such a limited run, I would have them EDM'd. These splines can be burned and they will all be the same. When broaching a single spline at one time you will go bankrupt trying to pay for them and they will not all be equal in size. Some will fit tight, some will be loose. There is a lot more math involved. Custom tooling for this kind of broach needed to cut this spine is tremendously expensive.

How much do you think EDM'ing them would cost, and do you know anyone that does it?

dura blue has been selling tecate hubs for years.. the hub blank is nothing new.. only the bolt pattern is custom.

huh? These 4/110 hubs would be the same as their other 4/110 Honda hubs with new splines cut by a tool they lost. The only difference according to DuraBlue is the spline count. I have a set of DuraBlue hubs that are 20 some years old. I guess I don't understand your post.

they sold these same hubs in 4/101 not too long ago.. they use the same casting for yamaha and suzuki as well.. the only diff is the splines cut and the patern they drill.. Dura blue woundn't bother if they werent makin money on them is all i'm saying.

Edit: dcreel. i missed the post about the lost broach.. now i see what you guys are saying

Ahh.. got ya.. Yeah, don't know what to do now. Excited to bummed in nothing flat.. I just don't understand how these large companies lose things that make them money. The wife asked me if any other companies could do it.. I thought G Force but I don't think they have been around that long.. I may be wrong. I'm open to any ideas though.. I've got a set of mint 8" 4/110 wheels with a set of real nice H tracks waiting to go on my Tecate..

for short term i would re-drill some '84 hubs.. as for dura blue..will they sell the hubs cheap enough without splines to make a new broach worthwhile? what does a broach cost when divided by 50? Surely there is some machinists on this site that could use the work if you rounded up a broach

Spline cutting is not as easy as it sounds. I wouldnt trust just any "machinist" with a several thousand dollar broach.
