    bolted tires?? Mantis??

I found this pic of the Mantis. Its got some hairy looking tires on it. Anybody here familiar with them or get to see them in action? did they have tubes? did they perform? or what?

I never had any interest in tri-zs til lately, but I have always found this machine extremely interesting. please share any pics or vids you may have

Those are some radical studs, but I have always been one of those guys that lean low on the fenders enough to "Sharpen" them, I realize that beast has a lot of swinger stretch to it, but they look like they are capable of administering a lot of pain in a short amount of time…
Don’t know if they would hook up and launch or rip the bolt heads through the tire but they certainly do look mean, but whatever you do, don’t put your foot down

I saw Ronnies "Mantis" at Trikefest this year, however I didn't get to see it in action with the bolts in the tires. I did have the oppurtunity to see "Ronnie" drag racing the "Mantis" in 300 feet. For a true 250cc machine, all I can say is holy cow! But far the fastest 250cc Tri-Z on the plant, with the best rider behind the handle bars. Ronnie also ran the "Mantis" in the open class, battling it out with all the big boy machines. IMO the results aren't justified.....thats another story! RIP Ronnie

I think there is a video somewhere of Ronnie doing a burnout with those tires on concrete throwing some nice sparks. Can't seem to find it right now.

I would suspect with those metal studs in the tires that it would be setup for running on ice?

Ronnie use to hill climb the mantis!!! That was his set up for it.
The bolt-tire burnout vid was shot at trikefest, the vid does not do the burnout justice!!! That trike is FAST!!!! It is the fastest 250 I've ever seen!!

I had the rear tires on my banshee studded with 1.25 carbide tipped snowmobile studs, about 40 in each tire. On the inside I used 3/8 fender washers to help spread out the load, they would not bend the tire over as much as I thought. As far as I know they have held air for at least 2 years with no tubes, I'll have to ask my buddy that has it now.

The MAN knew what he was doing, he built incredible Tri-Z motors.

Long live Ronnie. May he rest in peace!
