    85 atc250 es

I have a 85 atc 250 es. I'm a mechanic but for the life of me canT get the rear drum brakes to adjust right. I have bought and installed all new cables pads and the return spring on the rear arm. Everytime I get them close it either won't return to the bottom position( fully released). Or won't grab at all. Any ideas on how to adjust them correctly? Thanks.

Have you tested how the brakes function with the cables detached? Sounds like you have more of a problem than just adjustment. Maybe the brake cam is not springing back like it should.

Yea I've played with it. And it moves normally. That's why I can't figure it out. The cables move freely by themselves. As does the arm. But when you put it all together it binds in one spot when it's grabs the rotor. And when it's loose it returns normally.

Did you lube the brake cam where it goes through the backing plate?

Your brake arm is probably not clocked correctly to the camshaft...
