    Value of the Tiger 80 bike...KTM 80MX

Well, my 1986 KTM 80MX is near completion . I did some resto work on it but I just really cleaned it up and left the origional wear and tear (which is minimal) on the bike...I like a little patina! Everything on it is mostly origional including the tires. Im still working a few bugs out but it should be good to go for spring. That being said, what would you guys say an 80mx is worth? I know its what the tiger 80 is based off of but realisticly, how much (if any) does that effect the value of the bike? At the end of the day, its still just an old KTM. They do pop up occasionally but generally these bikes are quite rare, especially in good running shape. I believe this was also KTMs first mini ever. The ones I have found I had to have shipped across the country. Ive never seen another one for sale in the north east at least. So whats all you guys' .02 cents? And before anyone asks, no its not for sale...this is just out of curiosity lol.

    Thanks

Value depends on what someone is willing to pay. When I sold mine I got a fair price, but I sold mine with alot of nos parts. Condition means alot. Hard to even start placing a value without seeing some kind of pics. Running, I would say $800 to $1000 at the very least. $2000 may be pushing it.

I had heard a gentleman that works at Chaplin Kawasaki in Chaplin, CT was the owner of the one that you always see pics of.....ya know with those really tiny back tires that was found in a trailer with other tiger stuff as well. And I was under the assumption that he was the one who bought out all of the nos ktm 80mx parts from all the ktm dealerships. And I do know the guys down there at chaplin kawi are BIG into Tigers. But I recently went there looking for parts for my 80mx. I mean, hey, if this guy bought all the 80mx stuff available, he must have some gaskets right? But they denied knowing anything about it. So I dont know. I also heard there are also more than one tiger 80 now. I think a member on here has a complete disassembled kit and someone else has an incomplete one. But I am not 100% on any of this. Whoever has these machines is very hush hush. Why? I dont know...maybe they dont feel like being bombarded with offers to purchase it or something. Who knows. If I had the tiger 80..id be flaunting that thing all the time. Why not let other people see it too? I know id love to see one.

i have 3 ktm 80's,one is original and very clean,1 is complete but needs minor tlc and the 3rd is in parts but complete.as far as value goes i really dont think there is much because not really many people desire to have them.just like you i had also had to have mine shipped to me from across the country.they are very hard to find.i did buy out a ktm dealer in ga who had every ktm 80 part that was left from ktm.i have almost every part to build a brand new ktm 80 from the ground up but im waiting to get the room and time to do it right.i do have the tiger 80 as well and im also waiting to find the time and place to put it when its done.im no longer at chaplin so thats why they told you they know nothing about me.

The Tiger 80 is a trike that I really have the hots for. I would be willing to trade one of my Tigers or my parts tiger for one in pieces. I won't speak for any Tiger 80 owners, they have their reasons for doing what they do. There really isn't enough information on them currently though. Hopefully that will soon change. KTM parts are really hard to come by. There are sources, but I'm not willing to divulge any at this time. I want to save some parts in case I get a chance to own a Tiger 80. I do wish people would post more pics though.

its funny you saying about wanting to trade something for one cause i'd trade my 06 suzuki 450 quadracer for even a roller so i guess we both want them pretty bad lol.

I dont have any NOS ktm 80 stuff but i have a TON of used parts. I can build a couple more bikes but I was kicking around the idea of taking one and building a tiger 80 replica eventually...as i will probably never get the chance to own a real tiger 80. That and I ride my machines. I want something I wont feel bad about ripping it around every now and then. A genuine tiger 80 is not something you take out to beat on the trails. But for right now, my ktms are on the back burner (again) as i am currently working on my YT project. And as far as the KTM value, I dont care what they are worth really. They are cool 80s. Great suspension stock and an overall cool looking bike. Plus I think its kind of neat that it was their first mini. Its just finding certain parts for them is a complete pita though.

It ain't worth having if it ain't worth riding. I ride my other Tigers, I would ride the 80 for sure.
