Another 350X cylinder head bites the dust :D

I got one of the 2 heads I had to do done today. Just gotta put in the stainless studs.

This hole (kinda hard to see it) was off center, and had used a 6mm fastner and it must have been stainless or something else; It was hard as a rock about half-way down the drilling path. Then I switched to a carbide end mill. The other holes were stock and no problem.

Anyhow, these are the things that snap end mills, I can't drill them or the hole would be too far off of center. So, of course, the end mill snapped. I buy cheaper carbide end mills because I know this is gonna happen from time to time....... But, thats why I wish people would just send me the head. Many of you buy the trike like this but it's much harder to fix.

I love when I get the ones with a stud welded to a stud

Anyhow, here it is with 4 new helicoils installed:

I always resurface the bottom and the intake flange mount just to remove any high spots:

    Shops open, keep em coming

They usually run about 100$ for the extraction of the old ones, 4 SS helicoil inserts and 4 new studs all included in that price.

You cannot beat that price when just indicating in the head takes an hour and I have a 3000$ Bridgeport Mill.

If something is hardened and inside the hole, you may have to pay me for a carbide endmill or whatever tool it takes to get it out.

Sometimes I have to break tools to get it out and there's nothing I can do when it's half in aluminum and half in the stud or other fastner that got cobbled in there.

I've done over 30 of these now............

    THANKS RODKNOCK!!!!!!!!!!!!
