What setup do you run on 300r aircooler

I have a 83 honda 250r atc that I just picked up,the guy sold me the trike and a crate that had a 300cc cyl,piston new gaskets everything like it was ready to be put in,for $500,anyway(he had no idea what he had)SCORE!!

My question is,what is the best set up for all around riding,a little of everything.Like whats a good carb,jetting,intake,gearing,etc.your advice will be GREATLY appreciated.I just want to get the right parts the first time,I have right now...

aftermarket pipe and scilencer
38mm mikuni flat slide (i dont know much about these carbs and jetting)
reed spacer and boyeseen power reeds
open air filter (uni)
stock gearing 13/42

the trike is stripped right now,Im just starting on putting it back together.

What kind of pipe did it come with? I know the majority of the guys are running Keihin carbs on these older R's, they seem to run better with them for some reason. For a 300 kit that is going to be a rider, a 35 or 36mm keihin. I think the 35mm is the Airstryker, and is the best carb you can fit into the stock manifold, and provides superb performance over even the outdated 86 250r's "flatside" 34mm keihin. Im not sure what jetting should be set at, each machine differs to be honost. If you can find someone with a similar setup, they should be able to give you a good starting point.
I love 3ww, and hate to direct people away from it, but for a air cooled 250r fanatic, you should really check out air foolers dot com, they have all the info on these old R's. Hope this helps.

There is additional info at Airfoolers. Too much information can never hurt.........

I'd start with a big fat rich jet, foul a few plugs and work down from there.

You DO NOT want to run an air cooled motor too lean, you WILL seize the engine.

But, plenty of the guys here also have 300R's and may be able to help you.

Make sure you drill the 2 lubrication holes in the piston that ride on the exhaust bridge; Many guys just grind that bridge back pretty far to ensure that there won't be a clearance and seizure issue.......

Hey thanks alot guys for the very helpful input,Im not sure what kinda pipe it is,I think its a bills pipe,Its cone shaped with i think 5-6 cylinder shapes welded together.

Im new to 3 wheeler world,I LOVE THIS SITE,any additional info welcomed.

I got a 38mm keihin airstyker, Phase 5 pipe, DG silencer, V Force 3 reeds, reed spacer and a Chariot Performance intake on my 300r. It has had the trx330 mod done to it and ported by Flotek. Flotek works wonders with these motors. I want to see pics of your 300 cylinder still in crate.

Do you only have to do this with 300r kit ? or a stock cylinder also that is just getting a fresh bore and new piston ? I have a 84r that is in right now getting a fresh bore and new wiseco prolite piston , will i have to do this with the new piston ?

It's highly recommended by pro engine builders, but check the instructions that came with the piston.
