    250SX starting problem

    Okay so this is it.
My '85 SX is in great shape, but now i have some trouble to start it by the electric starter. I know it is on neutral, but i push on the start button and nothing happens...Last time I tried to start it by the side kicker, and as soon as I pushed on it, the light of the neutral appeared and the motor started very well by the electric starter. Now, i try to start it by the kicker but it's not doing the same thing as the other day...
    Help me!
    Go big or go home!!

Have fun, get your manual!! Check the ground and make sure it's a good battery. Throw a voltmeter on the solenoid and you should have 12 volts when the button is pressed between the red/ green and whatever else is there - I forget. You will also here a click if it's getting juice and that makes the big amperage connection to the starter with the big wire. If all tahts good then the starter brushes themselves may be done.

    Good luck

If the neutral light is on and the starter is not working, you may have to replace the brushes in it.

If the neutral light does not come on, you have to wiggle the wires that run under the right side case until the light comes on, or where the wire connects to the light assembly.

It wont start with the electric starter if the light is not on.

I had the same thing happen to my 250sx, the problem was with the little black box underneath the left rear fender (cant remember if it was a cdi or what), but the problem was that the multi plug that was hooked to it had a wire that pulled out of the multi plug. You couldnt tell it had a loose wire because of the plastic connector that joins the wires to the cdi blocks your sight of the wire ends. I spliced the wire back into the connector and never had the problem again.

The other thing to check it the connection to the neutral switch. If I understand what you posted, when the electric starter does not work, the neutral light is not working either. There is a plug low down on the right side of the motor with two wires, one for the neutral light, and one for the reverse light. Check the plug to make sure that it is secure.
