how do I shift this thing?

Getting ready to work on a yamaha 200 and 225dx today. The guy I got these from didnt know anything about them but im going to try to get them to run today. Seems like the shifter is stuck on both trikes. the 200 is shaft drive with electric start unsure on the year but it seems like its stuck in neutral and maybe the linkage is binding up I dont want to push too hard on it and break the shaft off if im pushing the wrong way. The 225dx seems stuck in gear though, will it start in gear? Which way do these things shift up or down? Sorry for all the questions im new to yamaha utility trikes!

I recall seeing in one of their TV commercials on YouTube that they all shift up, not the down then up, or all down.

i know the 225 is all up, i got one, but not sure about the 200

But if it does have reverse it will shift both ways.. If it has electric start i am sure it has reverse..

Um sometimes they get stuck try rocking it back and fourth while shifting up or down. I know a couple bikes need to be rocked to shift if their sitting still.. Like mine wont shift unless i manuall turn the flywheel myself.

^There are machines out there that require you to engage the reverse gear by pressing a button then pulling on the clutch (or front brake) then pushing down on the shifter to engage reverse. The few that I have experienced that with have their shift pattern as all up. I'm not saying that this is how the gears work on these machines, but it could be a step in the right direction.

Well I figured it out and managed to get them to both shift! They have been sitting a long time so it took me awhile working with them to get them broke free.

To put it into reverse just shift into 1st and pull the red lever back until it engages. No clutch to pull or button to push. Pretty simple
