    extending a 350x swingarm ????

I am going to be extending the swingarm on my 86 350x . I know when I measured it up to get a idea of the size of metal i will be needing was around 2 1/8" x 1 1/8". I have called around a little bit and looks like I am having a hard time finding this size??? Dose anyone know where I could find it or could I get by with some 2"x1"?

2x1 may just slide right inside of the factory metal, which would be alright, but i would box it in with soem flat stock afterwards.try mcmaster carr for the steel. mcmaster.com

there was a thread somewhere not too long ago and someone posted images of how he took two swingers cut them in different places and welded the front of one to the rear of the other for a 4-5" longer swingarm. I'm trying to locate that thread. When I find it I'll post the pics.

There's nothing wrong with using angle iron, I'm sure Fabio isn't using bed rails and WTF does the welder have to do with it if the steel is soooo inferior??

You may be able to get something and cut it down on the top or side making it a "U".

I love Mcmaster but they aren't my steel and Al choice - try Speedymetals, excellent service, every size imaginable and shipped fast. A right angle grinder is your best friend for this type of work and a good Mig welder.

The swinger that was recently posted was the guy building the stroker 350X with a 250R front end; I just can't recall his name at the moment.......... But his thread can't be more than a few pages back. He angle cut his - more surface area to weld = good.

Ummm, wrong again redneck. I'm sure you're used to that by now.

There is a big difference between bedrails and angle iron. My swinger has held up for about five years now and if you look at my profile pic you will know I do not take it easy. You're the genius that tries to build things out of bedrails, not me. BTW, how's that hardtail 399 running?

TECATEMATT, if you look in this thread you will see how Dan and I went about extending his swingarm. For his we added a little more internal strength with some square stock. I don't know what size it was, but it was probably about 1/2 x 1/2. We didn't do this because of any issues I had with my swing arm (which was extended first), we did it because he had the material lying around so why the f**k not?

I just checked out the Tecate swinger and it looks great, must have used the rails from a king sized bed for that.
