    85-89 250R Engine Cases...

What would cause the clutch side case to bust here? This is not my case but mine is repaired in the same fashion.

    Just curious?

My cover was off for weeks so I got a good look in there replacing the clutch and all.... - I believe if you drilled through that patch you would hit the bolt that holds the main gear onto the crank and another gear that drives the counterbalance gear. I guess the bolt came loose?? Hmm, cannot for the life of me think anything else??

I don't know either Jeb, but I've got a "spare" sidecover up in my junk that has a whole chunk knocked out of it from there all the way down to the bottom. Just a big peice gone.

Mine is like that as well - It's caused by the crank nut coming loose and colliding with the cover...very common problem on the Rs....anyway heres a picture of mine

Yep, MRATC pm'ed me and explained that the damage is caused by a bolt backing out and breaking the case.

Carty, Nice R man! You've come quite a ways since the days of the "pink bastid" ! :-D

lol thanks...I ended up selling the pink/green monster to a friend of mine....the ATC is scary fast. It's got a +10 swingarm and it still pulls it up with no problems..that photo was taken at LS in Oklahoma, I borrowed an aluminum rear axle from a friend, the only tires we had for a banshee bolt pattern were 22x12x8 10 paddle ultra lights...a little too much tire for a stock cylinder but they worked pretty good..I'm planning on going down to Silver Lake next weekend, I put my 21x12x8 8 paddles on it and launching in 2nd gear is no problem at all. I've got a 55 gallon drum of methanol to burn up so it should be an intresting weekend! haha
