    Bypass oil injection

Has anyone thought about setting the oil injection(for any 2 stroke) to pump as much as possible. Then using it to pump from the tranny to an oil/fuel filter back to the tranny?

Maybe ad an electric pump to do so, then tap and drill the case to fit it?, if you did, you could have a constant spray(or drip) over the clutches/gears.

I always premix, so the pump is useless. But i don't like changing the oil out at the dunes.

I was thinking of tapping out my drain plug and fitting a coupler to it, run a line from there to the pump. Then splitting a breather on the engine, that way it could still breath, and attaching the line to it. Wouldn't have to cut the case anywhere.

the filter would probably be slick to have but when your moving the oil is being flung everywhere and over everything as is so i dont think that would be any advantage. i cant say for sure but i would imagine the pump for oil injection would not flow enough to be very effective.

using a breather line as a return line would be a bad idea. unless you have another way to vent the case its going to be very hard to keep seals in your cases.

There is no need to cool your transmission oil.

Your ideas sound good in theory, but I don't think the practical application would work too well. All the vibrations, all the open lines and connections, it just sounds like you are asking for a maintenance nightmare and heaven help you if you snagged something on the trail. I would be more for the filtering aspect than the coolilng. An old oberg oil filter would be good for something like this, but as far as using the premix pump, I'm just not feeling it, you know? You would have to use some kind of independent pump and then you have to worry about electrics and such. And I would want to tap in to the cases for sure and not run with any existing bolts or breathers. In case your system failed, the worst that would happen would be you wouldn't be filtering your oil. I'm sure there would be a slight cooling effect, but not sure how much it would reduce your oil temperature. I'm not sure how long you ride your trike for at a time, but if you think you are really affecting your oils longevity, I would mainly suggest changing your oil more frequently.

Way more hassle than its worth. What kind of oil are you running? I got Valvoline 4 stroke wet clutch oil in the YT175 and it holds up great. Yamaha only recommended changing the trans oil in the YT175 every 6 months. I change it a lot more than that but it comes out real clean. I would just get a higher grade of oil if your having problems with it.

I've got the O/I pump still hooked up on the YT175 I got since its completely original and I can't bring myself to change that. I have dialed it in to specs though, and basically it only flows a couple drops at a time and couldn't pump that much oil. Also it would probably not handle the metal particles well, since its designed to pump clean oil.

I use the same oil, Valvoline 4 stroke wet clutch. I'm not having any problems, just an idea. The oil would have to be modified to flow more. I ran the idea past my brother to see what he thought of it. He stated the oil burns up, and that's why you have to replace it. Not necessarily because it's dirty. I'll stick to my 5 ride change set up lol.

If i had a 12volt set up, i might consider veals idea on tapping the case, Have the oil drain from below and pump back into right onto the clutches.
Get a 12 volt pump. PC water cooling pump or something along those lines. They are a simple pump, and pump anything with minimal power.

The idea of splitting the breather was this. Basicaly have 2 lines coming out of the breather. 1 for oil return, the other for breathing.

Someday i might try it, do some test runs, tap a drain plug and split the breather. A test like that would show if it gets dirt at all. Also, put the filter before the pump in the line:-p, I wounder if i can modifie my spare pump. Unless 1 of you wants to buy it ?
