at a loss on air cooled 250r

I have a 82 250r that runs away everytime it is started. I can't seem to Finda vacuum leak I have replaced the intake boot and intake gaskets but still doing it.when it taksoff I can pull the spark plug boot and it will keep running.the only way to kill it is plug off the intake or it run out of fuel.please help!!

Is the slide inside the carb installed wrong? Make sure it can close all the way an open all the way when you put it in.

Ok I dont want to sound like an idiot, but what kindy of gas do you have in it? I have seen lawn boy lawn mowers (2-strokes) do this and it turned out that some one had put diesel into there fule, it had all the same simpson as you are saying your 250r has???

X2 on what express said.My 81 did the same thing when I started it for the first time.Look down the bore that the slide goes in, there should be a little tang opposite the idle adjust screw and make sure that it goes into the slot on the slider that runs the entire length of the slider.

slide is in right im running premium grade gas with honda 2 stroke oil

i've seen misadjusted throttle cables do this after a rebuild. Or sometimes the cable housing can slip out and get caught on the carb cap. Throttle should always have some free play. You should do a leak down test to check for airleaks. Are you using the correct spark plug?

when this first started i rode it one weekend and it sat through the week in my garage and the next weekend i started it up and it took off. i have since tried all i can think of i have rebuilt the carb, replaced the reeds, reed cage gaskets, replaced the sprk plug, i just ordered new top end gasket kit to replace the jug and head gasket... i dont know what else to do.

Do a leak down test I was having a similar problem on my 83 250r I though it was a leak turned out my dad had turned the idle adjustment screw all the way in for the highest idle possible it sounded like it was gonna blow.
