    Oh no!!!!!

    Help!!! My 1981 185S was running awesome. I started it the two nights ago and it started smoke (oil). This just started. I ran it for about and hour the smoke was pretty much gone by that time.
    After I was done riding I pulled the oil plug and let it drain over night. Today I go out and look at the oil that came out and it's not black IT'S SILVER, and I mean silver no black.
    I put in new oil and I have oil getting to the top of the head.

    The metal in the oil was not attracted to a magnet. I can't figure out where this metal would have come from and so quickly. Why is it burning oil now. The cylinder walls are steel.
    I have heard a ticking in the engine and thought it was the compression release but now it sounds lower in the engine block.

    Does this engine have an oil slinger?

    Does anyone have a link to a down loadable 185S service manual?

    Any thoughts out there??

    timing chain. mine started wearing on the walls of the Cyl slapping around. nice silver looking oil. the guide was nfg and the chain. the cyl was still good but near worn through.

    I've had gas shut off valves leak
    and fill the crankcase diluting the oil.

    So I always check oil every ride.

    Silver soup, eh?
    What is alum?
    cam journals?
    piston?

    You say no real scary noises?

    The smoking could be worn rings or valve stem seals..
    If it ain't sideways......what's the point!!

    Do a compression test, check your valve clearances.

    Usually I'd star investigating and tearing stuff apart. but this time only, drain the oil, and fill the engine with diesel fuel. Run it for about 30 seconds, drain the diesel and add oil, run and drive for an hour then change oil again. A good bottom end flush can do wounder. The diesel will lubricate and clean extremely well.. but doesn't lubricate like oil it self. It's also hard to ignite, so no worries about it catch fire or anything. You'd be surprised what it could flush outta a car lol.

    If it keeps smoking with new oil, then that sucks. When was the last time the oil was changed? You might also be running lean. Piston get ho, expand to much, wear piston down. That is the only thing i could think of that would cause the non magnetic silvery oil.
