pros an cons of smaller tires

hey guys I want to know what you guys think about going to a smaller tire. I have an 84 250r with 24-11-8 and I know I can get an 20'' or an 18''. I know I will have to change my chain an sprockets. But I would like to know what the pros an cons are I ride where there is alot of sand, hard pack, and gravel roads. thanks guys Aaron

    Pros- better sliding, more stability
cons- less traction, less flotation, less ground clearance

I've been rideing on 18'' tires for about 20 years and I wont ever go back to tall tires.

maybe 22's or 20's wont be too much of a change for ya but 24's are a bit tall for a R

The smaller the tire is the faster you'll accelerate but your top speed will decrese but with so little difference in overall height I'm not sure if it will make a huge difference

24" are WAAAYYY too tall for an R. I run 20" Dunlop Radials on my R. I do alot of gravel road running. They slide great, and straightline hookup is very good.

Pros: More stable, better looking (IMHO), better holeshot capability, better traction on gravel road/racing type riding, no significant balooning at high speed (especially with radials)

Cons: Stiffer ride, not as much traction/floatation in muddy situations. (but who goes mud-boggin on an R?) Most 18 and 20" tires are a bit more expensive than the run of the mill GP tires....
