Have you ever changed your oil pump? Necessary?

    Hi all,

I am rebuilding my clutch and have the side cover off. I have a 225dx. I was wondering if I should tackle changing my oil pump while I'm in there. Do they last forever?

Do you guys change yours for preventative maintenance?

I DO hope you get an answer.
    I'd like to hear it.
The last I heard was 4 strokes should spray oil with the valve covers off.
That is IF a 225dx is 4 stroke, I never seen one.
The 85+ hondas have an oil line that can be tapped into somehow.
4 st again, timing chains would rattle like crazy since they are oil press dampned.

Wonder what the 'right' way is.
I have seen pictures of feeler gauges used to check clearances on automotive oil pumps.

Really wish I knew. Bet you'd like to too, since it's all apart.

While you are there at it I for sure would check tolerances and clearances of the oil pump. I always do when Im going through old V8s, most of the time they do end up checking out within spec, if not get another.
